Just Don’t Punch Someone in the Face

Deep breath…….(Me, not you)….because I’m really fighting this topic.

Don’t misunderstand, I do love to write.

I’m just struggling with what I’m feeling led to talk about.

Failure. My failure……maybe yours too?

It’s the failure to finish something I start.

Here’s a short list of a few things I have started and for various reasons abandoned ship.

Things like…….

-Writing Projects

-House Projects

-A Non-Profit Ministry

-Bible Studies

I think you get the point.

The reasons for failing to finish are vast.

Reasons like…….

Self-Sabotage (So good at this one….though I worked out why in counseling.)

-Straight-up Rebellion

-Losing Interest

No one really wants to talk about his or her failures.

In fact, most people want to talk about their success.

And I suppose there is a place for that.

However, the good news for those of us who have been good at failing to finish what we start is…………

Most failure is NOT fatal.

When we can learn from our failures.

We can learn to be finishers.

We can learn to let our yes be yes and our no be no. We can learn that we are not here to please people, but to please God.

We can learn to count the cost before we start something new.

We can learn that even in our failures there is a lesson to learn that will mature us if we yield to the process of growth.

AND…….we can also recognize that by the grace of God we are still in the process of finishing things we have started.

Such as…….

-Our Fight of Faith

-Our Marriages

-Our Parenting

-Our Friendships

To be clear- there are valid and good reasons to stop some things.

Not all things need to be “finished” in the way we would like or think.

Sometimes stopping something is the wisest thing we can do.

to the One who who finishes everything He starts.

Because He doesn’t start anything He doesn’t intend to finish.

And friends, He started the work in you if you’ve said yes.

Here is how Paul the Apostle says it in Philippians 1:6-

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it’s finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

Let’s all take a deep breath and drink in this GOOD NEWS.

We are ALL in process and the work being done IN us will be completed when Christ Jesus returns.

Until then……just breathe…..learn…….and grow.

Throw a few fits if you have to.

Say a few cuss words if you must.

Don’t punch someone in the face though!

Just take some space.

Tell people to back off.

Draw near to God and those who are healers, not self-righteous judgers.

Find Rest.

If I can find rest, you can find rest.

The Gospel is rest. The Good News. It is Finished.

Now in this place….let Him work in you and through you.
